Job Details: Summary: Performs administrative/clerical duties in support of assigned department. Job Responsibilities: Greets patients and visitors, answers/screens/routes telephone calls, files, distributes mail and performs other clerical duties as assigned. Communicates with patients, families, physicians and other healthcare team members about patient care. Types various reports and documents for unit staff; photocopies and distributes and/or files as necessary. Transcribes physicians' orders subject to the approval of a licensed nurse. Asks for clarification when necessary. Assists with processing patient admissions, transfers and discharges. Assembles and maintains patient charts. Other duties as assigned. Education: High School Diploma or GED. Satisfactory completion of a course in basic medical terminology, health science or experience in the healthcare field that provides knowledge of basic medical terminology of healthcare systems. Experience: At least six months prior public-contact work with demonstrated ability to deal with stressful situations. Prior job experience with typing or computer training or equivalent course work. Licensure/Certification/Registration: None Physical Requirements: Requires full range of motion, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Requires frequent data entry, standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Requires normal or corrected speech, hearing and vision. Requires some exposure to communicable disease or body fluids.
