Job Details: Summary: Responsible for leading the development, implementation and maintenance of the organizational and managerial expertise necessary to have a compliant research program and optimize the growth of the Institute research program; ensuring that all research is conducted in accordance with regulatory compliance and funding agencies reporting requirements, as well as adherence to applicable research cost accounting principles; facilitating strategic planning and implementation; facilitating marketing and communication of Institute research program; leading the integration and interface of the Institute research program with Cleveland Clinic research administration and compliance, general counsel, business development, fund development, government relations and commercialization offices; and fostering inter-institutional and funding agency relationships for the purpose of communication, collaboration and alliance building.

Job Responsibilities: Leads the organizational and managerial expertise necessary to optimize the growth and maintenance of the Institute’s compliant research program by defining, developing and overseeing the Institute research infrastructure, including central coordination of research study start-up; research compliance and quality assurance; research financial portfolio management, including externally sponsored and internally supported research from institutional or philanthropic sources; research data systems and data registries; and research core laboratories, including imaging and reading core facilities, as well as design and analysis capabilities and tissue repositories. Develops and maintains an effective organizational structure. Leads workflow assessment to optimize program processes and operations, including management and utilization of research support personnel, research space and research equipment. Makes decisions regarding employment, compensation, promotions, transfers, disciplinary actions and terminations, as well as conducting performance evaluations, providing career development and educational opportunity counseling to employees, and guiding and advising employees in more complex aspects of their work. Facilitates strategic planning and implementation by developing research growth strategy goals for the Institute through data acquisition and analysis, providing benchmarking information as well as corporate and federal funding climate data and communication within Institute and with Cleveland Clinic research administration, business development, fund development, government relations and commercialization offices. Facilitates the creation of financing mechanisms for Institute research infrastructure by defining and quantifying possible revenue sources for the individual research programs and setting and communicating overall utilization standards, which may also entail facilitating the process to define, standardize and communicate elements of recruitment and seed packages for investigators and associated research performance metrics to support the recruitment of established investigators. Other duties as assigned.

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Science or a related field required. Advanced degree in health services research and administration preferred and may offset some of the experience requirement.

Experience: Minimum five years experience in a research or hospital environment, including a minimum of three years of research administration, including organizational, personnel and financial management experience for a thorough understanding of research infrastructure and financing mechanisms.

Licensure/Certification/Registration: Within 90 days of hire, must successfully complete certification in Human Subjects Research as required by Responsible Conduct of Research guidelines adopted by the Cleveland Clinic.

Physical Requirements: Manual dexterity in order to perform keyboard functions.
