GENERAL SUMMARY

Supervises technologists and trainees. Performs instruction on laboratory procedures and use of equipment. Acts as a liaison between physicians and technical staff. Resolves technical and monitoring evaluation discrepancies. Interacts with biomedical support to help resolve technical problems and issues. Assists supervisor in maintaining work schedules, timekeeping, and evaluations of EEG technologists. Performs the duties of a EEG Technologist.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A. Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge in all areas of general EEG testing and instrumentation. Knowledge demonstrated competency of long term epilepsy monitoring techniques and patient interviews. Knowledge of Bedside Epilepsy Monitoring techniques and data management.

B. Required Length and Type of Experience

Completion of three month training program at CCF Main Campus. Two years experience in EEG or a associate degree or a four year degree.

C. Required Licensure, Certification or Registry

CPR certification

EEG registry required, or obtaining within 1 year upon hire

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Supervises technical staff under the minimal supervision of theEEG Supervisor. Assigns workload to technologists and trainees. Acts as a liaison between physicians and technical staff and resolves technical and monitoring evaluation discrepancies. Assists in the purchase, installation, maintenance, and trouble shooting of new equipment. Helps with the development of technologists' work schedules. Assists in the maintenance of the RAW EEG statistics for the Epilepsy center.

2. Monitors quality assurance for data acquisition, monitoring evaluation, electrode application, and EPIC Video/EEG evaluation entries. Assists EEG Supervisor in the assessment of the competency of technologists. Monitors laboratory census. Monitors patient satisfaction.

3. Instructs technologists in the running of EMU, BEM's, and routine EEG's . Educates technical staff and physician trainees on the policies and procedures of the laboratory, data acquisition, patient electrode application and monitoring evaluations. Reviews teaching files with technologists and physicians in training. Supervisor in the preparation of teaching materials.

4. Performs epilepsy monitoring evaluations for patients. Explains the procedure to the patients. Sets up and calibrates data acquisition systems and appropriate ancillary equipment. Applies appropriate EEG electrodes using the 10-20, 10-10 International and CCF systems of electrode placement. Applies appropriate EKG, EMG, EOG electrodes. Notes and corrects equipment malfunctions and artifacts. Interviews patients during seizures and postictally. Effectively communicates with supervisor and physicians. Assists evaluation technologists with electrodes, patient history, interviews, and technical problems. Effectively communicates with monitoring technologists and evaluation technologists to provide optimal care for monitored patients.

5. Performs review and evaluation of RAW EEG and video data in the EMU, BEM's, and routine EEG's.

6. Maintains equipment in clean operating condition and performs proper maintenance. Calibrate equipment and eliminate cause of electrical interferences. Troubleshoots the equipment and performs minor repairs when necessary. Notifies supervisor of equipment which must be repaired or replaced.

7. Maintains or orders supplies as needed.

8. Performs other duties as assigned.
