HISTOCOMPATIBILITY TECHNICIAN

Summary: Under supervision receives training to perform high complexity histocompatibility testing in multiple areas; complex technical functions for on-call deceased donor testing and STAT testing; set-up, monitoring and maintenance of equipment, instrumentation, reagents, and supplies, and administrative functions pertinent to each area of the lab. Completes competency assessments, external surveys and continuing education.

Job Responsibilities: Receives training to perform high complexity histocompatibility testing in multiple areas of the laboratory. Assists in the review and follows protocols and procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results, set-up, monitoring and maintenance of equipment, instrumentation, reagents and supplies. Assists in performing qualify control procedures. Assists with complex technical functions in one or more areas of the lab for on-call work including deceased donor compatibility testing, post-transplant monitoring or other STAT testing, analysis data interpretation or reporting. Assists with administrative functions pertinent to each area of the laboratory. Reviews and follows all protocols, following established protocols. Trained to schedule testing, interpret and report results. Assists with resolving incomplete or incorrect orders. Performs data entry. Completes requirements of histocompatibility technical competency assessment, internal and external quality control and continuing education. May assist with revising procedures and protocols. Other duties as assigned.

Education: Bachelor's Degree in one of the chemical, physical or biological sciences or a related field.

Experience: No prior experience required. Will receive one year of on-the-job training.

Licensure/Certification/Registration: None.

Physical Requirements: Must have manual dexterity, hand-eye coordination, eye-hand steadiness and eyesight to use microscopes and distinguish red and green. Must be able to sit for one hour or more performing computer functions. Must be able to stand for several hours. On-call hours can involve overnight work hours.

HISTOCOMPATIBILITY TECHNLOGIST

Summary: Performs high complexity testing and related functions in essential lab areas. Assists with development, validation, and implementation of new and/or revised procedures and protocols. Performs testing, quality control and corrective action procedures and problem resolution. Participates in on-call rotation to perform deceased donor testing and other STAT testing. Interact with internal and external departments and institutions.

Job Responsibilities: Performs high complexity histocompatibility testing in essential areas of the lab for those tests and protocols authorized by the training and competency assessment process. Adheres to the laboratory's quality control policy. Performs testing, quality control and corrective action procedures and problem resolution. Follows established policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within established acceptable level of performance. Identifies problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and immediately notifies supervision. Documents all corrective actions when test systems deviate from laboratory's established performance specifications. Participates in on-call rotation to perform deceased donor testing, post-transplant monitoring or other STAT testing, analysis, data interpretation or reporting. Assists with training new personnel in on-call functions and responsibilities. Performs administrative functions pertinent to each area of the lab. Assists with development, validation and implementation of new and/or revised procedures and protocols. Completes requirements of histocompatibility technical competency assessment, internal and external quality control and continuing education. Other duties as assigned.

Education: Bachelor's Degree in one of the chemical, physical or biological sciences or a related field.

Experience: One year of clinical laboratory testing.

Licensure/Certification/Registration: Medical Technologist (MT) or Certified Histocompatibility Technologist (CHT) preferred. West Virginia work location only: Must be licensed by the secretary (of West Virginia Dept of Health & Human Resources) as a Clinical Laboratory Practitioner.

SR. HISTOCOMPATIBLITY SPECIALIST

Summary: Under the direction of the Allogen Laboratories supervision, assists with supervision of one or more areas performing high complexity histocompatibility testing and related functions.

Job Responsibilities: Performs complex technical functions of a unique nature in one or more areas. Performs laboratory testing functions in specialty area. Adheres to all quality control procedures. Performs reagent and work area preparation. Develops, validates and implements new and/or revised procedures and protocols. Completes requirements of technical competency assessments. Assists with training internal and external personnel. Performs technical administrative functions pertinent to each area. Other duties as assigned.

Education: Bachelor's Degree in one of the chemical, physical or biological sciences or related field. Must be proficient in the English language and communicate effectively. Proficient at writing, using the phone and computer keyboard.

Experience: Three years of histocompatibility laboratory experience, demonstrated exceptional technical performance in one or more areas of AL. Knowledge of supervisory principles.

Licensure/Certification/Registration: Medical Technologist (MT) or Certified Histocompatibility Technologist (CHT) preferred. Meets annual continuing education requirements. Physical Requirements: Manual dexterity, hand-eye coordination, eye-hand steadiness and eyesight to use microscopes and distinguish red and green. Must be able to sit for one hour or more performing computer functions. Must be able to stand for several hours.
