Job Title

Distribution Center Assistant Manager

The Distribution Center Assistant Manager will assist the Distribution Center manager in all operations to assure consistent compliance to all distribution center standard operating procedures. Maintain and enforce compliance to established policies and procedures resulting in accurate inventory stock ownership in receiving, put away and timely distribution of all merchandise and supplies.  


Assist the Distribution Center manager in all responsibilities as outlined below:


  • Ensure Distribution Center standards and expectations are executed and adhered to on a timely basis.
  • Ensure DC inventory stock levels are consistently cycle counted for accuracy.
  • Ensure stock levels for the Supply warehouse are accurate and store replenishment is completed on a timely basis. 
  • Write purchase orders and contact vendors to replenish supplies.
  • Ensure the picking function is accurate and completed in a timely and efficient manner. 
  • Follow up timely to appropriate parties when shipment problems occur.
  • Ensure Fan Services, Corporate Sales, Fun Bunch, Tribe Rewards, Ballpark Operations, Human Resources and Ticket Service merchandise inventory levels are maintained, picked and delivered in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Ensure all send sales are processed and shipped accurately on a daily basis.
  • Ensure markdowns are completed and accurate.
  • Ensure all store transfers are correct and accurate inventory levels are maintained at the locations.
  • Ensure product quality meets the merchandising expectations.
  • Ensure facility cleanliness, maintenance and upkeep exceeds the defined standards and expectations.
  • Ensure photos are taken of all new and current merchandise cropped, edited and loaded into Chain Drive.
  • Ensure fulfillment of requisitions is completed in a timely manner.
  • Ensure that PO prints are sent weekly and the tracking sheet is updated weekly.
  • Ensure that packages are picked up from the dock in a timely manner.
  • Ensure that damages and RTV items are processed and completed on a monthly basis.

Operations/Loss Prevention

  • Maintain standard operating procedures and hold all accountable for compliance to standards.
  • Ensure efficient use of time and resources.
  • Ensure proper staffing/scheduling to support the flow of merchandise to meet the needs of the business within budgetary constraints.
  • Manage the renting of the delivery truck to avoid excess charges (fuel, time of possession, etc.).
  • Manage controllable operating expenses (payroll, supplies, etc.).
  • Inventory Control (receiving, product distribution, transfers, cycle counts, damages, mark out of stocks, yearend physical inventory), including but not limited to Cleveland Indians Charities High Achiever, Fan Service Choo Crew Shirts, Ticket Service Giveaway caps, Marketing giveaway product and Tribe Rewards products.
  • Proper training and awareness of staff on loss prevention methods.
  • Continuous review and reconciliation of logical locations.

Human Resources

  • Recruit, hire, train and develop the DC team so that they demonstrate leadership and operational skills.
  • Create an image of champions while instilling pride in their position.
  • Develop diversified internal and external bench-strength.
  • Assure compliance with all Human Resource standard operating procedures.
  • Hold staff accountable for performance results. 
  • Coach/counsel and take appropriate action (advancement and disciplinary).
  • Monitor payroll budgets on a weekly basis asking for adjustments when necessary.

Business Management

  • Utilize all technological resources to assure knowledge and time management.
  • Analyze business to assure maximization of sales, profit and future planning.
  • Develop sales, expense and payroll plans and goals at every level within discipline.
  • Assure effective implementation of yearly financial plans and goals.
  • Additional projects/responsibilities as assigned.
  • Assure focus of staff is always on accuracy, stock/inventory ownership, store support and customer service.
  • Develop spreadsheet application reports to monitor and analyze DC productivity and accuracy performance levels and hold staff accountable for achieving the performance levels.
  • Plan, lead and participate in DC management meetings.

Job Requirements:

  • Computer knowledge including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Office.
  • Understanding of retail or warehouse management system software.
  • 1-2 years prior exposure to working in DC or similar environment.
  • Strong management and planning skills.
  • Previous supervisory experience.
  • Ability to work with multicultural populations and a commitment to fairness and equality.
  • Ability to supervise a large part time staff.
  • Prior retail experience strongly preferred, but not required.
  • Ability to consistently meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work in a diverse and changing environment.
  • Ability to act according to the organizational values at all times.
  • Required to work irregular hours/days and long shifts as the business dictates.
  • Walks and/or stands for entire shift.
  • Required to travel to retail locations, via own transportation.
  • Effective communication with both internal and external business associates.
  • Frequent bending, stooping, reaching and lifting.
  • Ability to lift and transport items up to 55 lbs.
  • Occasional game-day duties as dictated by job responsibilities and workload.
  • Required to work 100% of all jewel events (Opening Day, Post Season, etc.) home baseball games.
  • Reads, speaks and comprehends English effectively.
  • Valid Ohio Driver’s License
  • Required to drive delivery truck as fill in, when needed.
