Oversees installation, inspections, repairs, troubleshooting and daily maintenance of buildings, infrastructures and facility equipment in order to meet Fire and Life Safety (FLS) requirements while ensuring a safe and healthy work environment. Supervises employees and provides leadership, orientation, training, coaching and mentoring to assigned employees.


Analyzes need and determines priority for work, coordinating and assigning duties to be performed for the overall inspection and/or testing/repair/commissioning process for Fire and Life Safety systems and equipment. Ensures quality and productivity, assigns adequate manpower assuring a safe and healthy workplace is maintained. Responsible for ensuring full completion of compliance activities as required by codes and standards. Performs quality assurance reviews of work completed by employees. Responsible for maintenance and operations of all FLS systems/equipment and provides reports on condition of systems to Buildings and Properties leadership. Acts as a field activity consultant addressing FLS questions and concerns by team members, end users, departments and regulators. Ensures impairments and restorations are documented and all required contacts are notified. Responsible for interacting with local, state, and federal personnel to reach equitable solutions as required. Establishes systems and processes to attract, develop, engage, and retain talented employees. Creates a work environment where people can realize their full potential in order to meet current and future clinical and business challenges. Through coaching and mentoring provides ongoing performance feedback to FLS employees. Accountable for staffing and capacity planning. Assists with monitoring of and compliance with department budget and review of inventory. Focuses and guides FLS employees in accomplishing work objectives; holding high expectations for self and others. Develops and initiates training and operating procedures for FLS team and vendors and ensures staff compliance with departmental and organizational policies, procedures and protocols. Other duties as assigned.

Other Information:

EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in an Engineering, Environmental Safety or related field. Additional years of experience may be substituted in lieu of the degree.
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION: Certified Fire Inspector Level 1 (CFI-1) through the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and Firestop Instructional Training (FIT) II level through Specified Technologies Inc (STI) required or able to obtain within one year.
COMPLEXITY OF WORK: Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: Four years of experience working with compliance for agencies such as CMS, TJC, NFPA, OSHA, EPA, and NEC (National Electric Code). One year of working with CMS or TJC in a health care environment. Two years of previous supervisory experience or demonstration of formal education in business management or related field preferred. Ability to work with employees, interdepartmental teams, and organizational leadership across the enterprise to effectively complete goals. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Typical physical demands require full body motion including ability to perform work while bending, stooping, stretching, climbing ladders; requires dexterity and strength sufficient to operate required tools and machinery; typically required to lift and carry machinery and/or equipment weighing up to 25 lbs. and/or assist with lifting weights exceeding 100 lbs. Requires color acuity sufficient to distinguish color-coded wiring and piping. Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time. Ability to travel on average one night a week and flexible to respond to last minute travel changes and requirements.
PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT: Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.
