Summary: Provides administrative and technical assistance. Performs various laboratory procedures with minimal technical supervision. Maintains equipment and records. and performs quality assurance.
Job Responsibilities: Performs laboratory procedures with minimal technical supervision. May perform all duties of a medical technologist. Troubleshoots procedural and technical problems and performs quality assurance activities related to test performance. Maintains equipment and records May provide training, consulting or advice within laboratory. Other duties as assigned.
Education: Bachelor's Degree from accredited technology program required. OR Bachelor's Degree in chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science. Technically proficient with theoretical knowledge sufficient to perform lab tests.
Experience: Minimum of two (three years for "high complexity testing personnel) years experience to include several of the following disciplines: Anatomic Pathology, Tissue Procurement, Surgical Pathology, Laboratory Information, Biological or biomedical research in the areas of Histology, Molecular Biology, Animal Surgery, or Clinical Trial Management. Masters Degree may substitute for one year experience.
Licensure/Certification/Registration: Eligibile for certification from a recognized national certifying organization or certification in laboratory specialty preferred.
Physical Requirements: Physical demands include: Visual acuity to study specimens under a microscope as required. The ability to distinguish colors. Manual dexterity to handle specimens and repair equipment. May require frequent standing or lifting up to 25 pounds. May be exposed to hazardous chemicals, biohazards, radioactive materials, etc.
