Job Details: GENERAL SUMMARY: Genetic Counselor- Oncology Assesses the benefit of clinical genetic services with individuals and families with medical history of cancer. Provides information and supportive counseling, coordinates genetic testing. Evaluates and determines the needs of the individuals and families and makes appropriate referrals based on the evaluation.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Master’s Degree (MS/MA) from accredited training program in genetic counseling. Excellent interpersonal skills to perform counseling involving delicate and emotional considerations. Excellent written, verbal and communication skills. Working knowledge of word processing and database management. Required Length and Type of Experience Previous experience in genetic counseling preferred. Typical physical demands include a high degree of dexterity to produce materials on a PC, normal or corrected vision, extensive sitting and frequent walking, occasional lifting or carrying 5 to 15 pounds. Required Licensure, Certification, or Registry Must be Board certified or Board eligibility of Medical Genetics or the American Board of Genetic Counseling. Familiarity with cancer genetics and molecular diagnosis.
