Job Details: Summary: Administers simple to complex infusion therapy for chemo and non-chemo treatments and educates patients and significant others while working in collaboration with physicians, nurses and other healthcare providers. Demonstrates a professional model of nursing practice through the use of oncology-related clinical pathways. Job Responsibilities: Assures safe practice by following practice guidelines for oncology nursing. Checks drug orders and calculations as per procedure to prevent medication errors. Performs thorough nursing assessment and toxicity screens to identify & manage drug and infusion therapy, side effects, and acute reactions to agents Works closely with principal investigators, research personnel, pharmacy, lab and ancillary departments to anticipate and collaboratively resolve patient care related to clinical trials. Safely delivers all experimental therapy, adhering to specific protocols. Assures accurate documentation relative to ordered therapy and nurse assessment (nutrition, function, pain, and psychosocial), patient needs, acute problems and changes in condition in response to therapy and course of illness. Other duties as assigned. Education: Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing. BSN or experience in oncology preferred. Experience: New graduate RN. Licensure/Certification/Registration: Current state licensure as Registered Nurse (RN). Certification in specialty strongly preferred. Successful completion of Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) sponsored chemotherapy course required within the first six months of employment. Physical Requirements: May require exposure to agents which are defined as teratogenic, mutagenic and carcinogenic; including biological hazards and potential skin exposures leading to tissue damage. Light Work - Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly (Constantly: activity or condition exists 2/3 or more of the time) to move objects. Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job should be rated Light Work: (1) when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree; or (2) when it requires sitting most of the time but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls.
